What it costs

A rough guide to the whole trip, per person, from where you live. Flights include a checked bag.

Last checked 27 October 2026

Flights and the room are most of it.

We've guessed your city, shown prices in your currency, and started from a shared flat booked early, as most couples will do. It's the week as we've described it, Negronis and long dinners included. Prices come from late-August 2026 fares and rates; 2027 will move.

Is Sicily expensive?

Eating and drinking, less than you'd think. A good trattoria dinner on Ortigia is roughly €30–50 a head with wine, and a Negroni about €10–12: less than Rome, Florence or the Amalfi Coast. Rooms are the exception: Ortigia in late August is peak season on a small island, so expect city prices for a hotel. Flights are the biggest cost for anyone crossing the Atlantic, which is why we'd rather you come for the week than the weekend.

What's in it, and what isn't

  • Flights: economy, return, with one checked bag. Booking late or flying on a Friday costs more.
  • Room: late-August prices in Ortigia, per room per night, plus the tourist tax (4% of the rate, up to €5 per person per night).
  • Eating and drinking: granita, lunch by the sea with a beer, a Negroni at sunset, dinner with wine, a drink or two after: about €100 a day.
  • Activities and transfers: your own share of the pasta class, a winery, a boat day and a few days of sunbeds, plus the airport and back by coach or shared car. An Etna day with a driver is extra.
  • Not included: what you wear, travel insurance (get it), a car, and anything you add to the trip before or after.

Ways to spend less

  • Book a refundable room now. The good-value rooms on the island go first.
  • Share a flat or a whole palazzo with friends. A terrace for eight costs less per head than a hotel room for two.
  • Take the coach from the airport (€6.20) instead of a car (€130–160).
  • Eat at the market and the pasta places at lunch, and save the Michelin dinners for one night.
  • Skip the car. You don't need one on the island.
